In this regard, it is pertinent to note that Dr. Riad had an LLB from the Faculty of Law, Cairo University in 1980 and an LLM and SJD from Harvard Law School in 1982 and 1985 respectively. He has also been a member of the Egyptian Bar since 1982 and New York Bar since 1985.
Additionally, Dr. Rashed had an LLB from the Faculty of Law, Cairo University in 1956 and a PhD in Public Law and Private Law from the same in 1966. She progressed, thereafter, to become the Professor and Chairperson of the Private International Law Department at the Faculty of Law, Cairo University and remained the same till her death. What is more, she was a Visiting Scholar at Yale Law School in 1961 and a Research Fellow at the Academy of International Law at the Hague in 1966.

Notably, TR & P represented the Kuwaiti Government in Arbitration between the Kuwaiti Government and the Aminoil Company. The value of said dispute was USD 2.5 billion.

Dr. Raid, Dr. Kosheri and Dr. Rashed have served distinguished positions in major regional and international arbitration centres for a lengthy period of time in addition to numerous arbitral institutions and committees entrusted with drafting important laws in Egypt.
Dr. Riad is currently a member of the Emeritus Council of the ICC Institute since 2021, member of the ICSID panel of conciliators since 2018, designated member of the ICSID panel of arbitrators since 2017, member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration since 2012, and member of International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) since 2012.
Moreover, Dr. Raid is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrations (London) and registered as Arbitrator and Panelist in the Special Roster of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
In 2014, Dr Riad was appointed as a member of the Investment Dispute Settlement Technical Committee chaired by the Prime Minister of Egypt from January 2014 to December 2014. Among of his duties in said committee was understanding the different disputes in which Egypt is involved including the disputes in relation to the pipeline and the supply of gas from Israel.
Furthermore, Dr. Riad was a member of the Board of Trustees of DIAC from 2013 until 2019 and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the same from 2008 to 2019. He was also an alternate member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration from 2012 to 2018, and member of the Scientific Council of the ICC World Business Law Institution from 2005 to 2021.
Additionally, Dr. Riad was a member of the Supreme Arbitration Committee of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. In 2011, he was appointed as a member of the Consultative Council responsible for preparing draft laws for the Egyptian Cabinet of Ministries until June 2012.
What is more, Dr. Raid was the special legal advisor to the speaker of the Egyptian Parliament from 1992 to 2000. Among of his responsibilities in this regard was the review of investment laws and related regulations.
Recently, Dr. Riad has been nominated as a member of the committee responsible for discussing and amending the Egyptian Arbitration Law No. 27/1994 in accordance with the decision of the Minister of Justice No. 6/2022.
As for Dr. Kosheri, he was on the honor list of ICSID for more than 20 years. He was granted the lifelong achievement award by the Global Arbitration Review in 2014 being the first Arab jurist and lawyer to be granted said award by the prestigious International Publication Global Arbitration Review.
Moreover, Dr. Kosheri was the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of CRCICA from 2012 until 2017 and member of its Board of Trustees in addition to being a member of ICCA. He was also the Vice Chairman of the ICC Court of Arbitration from 1998 until 2009.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Kosheri along with Dr. Rashed were members of the Committee that drafted the first and current Egyptian Arbitration Law No. 27/1994.
OUR TEAM’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LEGAL COMMUNITY IN ARBITRATION
Dr. Riad, Dr. Kosheri, and Dr. Rashed have played a vital role in promoting the legal community in Egypt and in the Region and leveraging its knowledge about arbitration. That is why, they have had a very active presence in the field of authorship and lecturing.
In this regard, Dr. Riad has written various publications about arbitration including his books entitled “The Applicable Law in Oil & Gas Arbitrations” and “The Applicable Law in Transnational Arbitration”. He has also given numerous lectures in Egypt about Upstream and Downstream Gas operations at the CRCICA conferences.
It is pertinent to note that Dr. Raid has recently been invited as a speaker and lecturer at four major conferences regarding arbitration. Three of these conferences have been organized by the Egyptian State Lawsuits Authority and one of which has been organized by ECAS.
With regard to Dr. Kosheri and Dr. Rashed, they have also left a number of valuable publications about fascinating topics in the field of arbitration. Among of these publications were “Some Practical Aspects of Egyptian Official Attitudes towards International Commercial Arbitration” and “ICSID Arbitration and Developing Countries” by Dr. Kosheri, and “Arbitration within the Framework of Cairo Regional Centre” by Dr. Rashed.
Additionally, in the light of TR & P being always abreast of the most recent developments that take place in the arbitration field and its interest in keeping the legal community posted with the same, it should be highlighted that TR & P team have recently translated the new DIAC Arbitration Rules launched in the early of 2022 from English to Arabic to assist the legal practitioners pursuing bilingual choices and contribute to the progress and prosperity of arbitration and its understanding in the region.
